What was this project?
The goal was to find something in your house that needed organization or fixing and solve the problem. In my house I knew there were a bunch of drill bits kicking around so I decided to make an object to keep them in one place and ready to be used. I designed a box shaped holder for them with holes for each size bit. I had seen a lot of similar objects. It is essentially a box with precisely cut holes to store drill bits. I quickly pulled up TinkerCad and started crafting it.
Designing the Holder on TinkerCad
I figured that the best way to proceed was to build a box that was big enough then use drill bits that I have and a ruler to roughly size them (I would normally use a caliper but all I had was a ruler so I did the best I could).

Printing the Holder
Printing the holder didn't take long. I threw it into Makerbot and then made sure all of the dimensions were correct. Then I downloaded it onto a USB to print it. I thought I took pictures while I was printing and of Makerbot but I have not been able to locate them. I was very busy that day but there's nothing I can do about it now. I did manage to print the holder and get it back. It is in a wonderful condition. one corner was a little deformed but it is not noticeable and it works great. Since then I have been using it for my Final project.
Summary
I learned a lot about thinking on my feet and making sure I can do things without the best tools. TinkerCad was my last resort because Inventor would not work on my computer. I managed to learn how to use the software on my own. after a lot of trial and error I had a product that was effective and useful. I also didn't have a caliper which made it really hard to do very precise measurements for the drill bits. A caliper would allow me to get measurements to hundredths of an inch which was far beyond the capabilities of my ruler that went to 16ths of an inch and my naked eye. I learned how to leave just the right amount of tolerance to allow the bits to fit perfectly. Frankly I am astounded that all of my measurements worked and my drill bits fit in their respective slots. It was a lesson in ingenuity but not one I would like to repeat. I also either forgot to take photos when I was printing or I lost them. I was almost certain I had taken them but I can't worry about it anymore because there is nothing to be done. I will get the grade I get but it doesn't worry me. That is the real lesson I've learned from Covid, not only in this class but in others as well. The world will not always be perfect or even tolerable but we must keep our heads high and carry on doing the best we can. I am proud of my work because I have a functioning product that I know I will use in the future.
